The SVQ Fabrication and Welding Engineering at SCQF Level 5 has been designed to allow a learner to evidence their competence in completing engineering tasks related to their chosen discipline. The assessment routes (units) within the qualification have been developed from the relevant National Occupational Standards developed and published by Enginuity, the sector skills council for the engineering sector.
This qualification may be used as one of the Safe and Common Practice routes in the new Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering Framework – Manufacturing and Fabrication at SCQF Level 7. It can also be used as a progression route on to the SVQ Fabrication and Welding Engineering at SCQF Level 6, or other relevant qualifications.
In order to achieve this qualification, each learner will be required to attain the three mandatory assessment routes and a minimum of five of the optional assessment routes, as detailed within the qualification specific information in section 3.0 of the qualification manual.
The overall grading type for this qualification is Pass / Fail. Assessment routes will be assessed and endorsed against the learners chosen disciplines. Learners will be required to create a Portfolio of Evidence to prove their competence in their chosen activities. Learners should therefore select the assessment routes that reflect the job roles they wish to pursue, or already carry out in the workplace, to be able to obtain the required evidence of competence.
Learners will be assessed in relation to their chosen disciplines and endorsed accordingly. The endorsement will be printed on their certificate to show future employers which disciplines were covered during their assessment.
It is not necessary for learners to be employed in a job role where they are carrying out the relevant tasks and responsibilities, as they can also achieve the appropriate evidence within a sheltered environment.
